Weekend Recap: “Venomous” and Deliciousness

This weekend was full of delicious food and entertainment!

Let me tell you all about it…..

Thursday

img_6861.jpgI’m starting on Thursday, because that’s when I took my mom out for her birthday dinner! Her birthday is actually on October 5th, but she was unavailable to have dinner then. We ate at Carrabba’s Italian Grill, as she really enjoys Italian food. I actually still had a headache, so I was lacking in my food photos. Check out her outfit! She loves music, and she also loves to have a very unique style. Is it hard to see where I got the fashion bug from? We have very different fashion styles, but we both definitely LOVE FASHION. I’m glad I was able to spend some time with her. My parents live only five minutes away, but since I moved out, I only see them mostly when I pick up my dogs from their house (we basically have “joint custody” of them: parents for the workweek, mine for the weekends/holidays.) I want to make more time to see them, especially since they’re not getting any younger.

Friday

bleachcoverFirst, I drove Brett to work after he dropped his car off for repairs, and then headed to work. That night, we watched the live action Bleach movie on Netflix, and then we started watching the anime series (Brett knows all about it and watched the whole series before. I liked what I saw from the movie and wanted to watch the show!) I really like it so far! I hadn’t really gotten into anime shows, even though almost all of my friends did. The only anime show I watched was Initial D (Anime about driving and drifting) during high school when I was all about import cars and driving fast (Yeah, I was one of those Asian kids.)

Oh, and I also watched Pokemon, if that counts!

Saturday

img_6898Started the day lounging around the house, doing some house stuff, and then my gorgeous Sseko x Dressember exclusive multi-way shawl arrived! What a beautiful piece designed by Jenna Kutcher, and the purchase supports the fight against human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Sseko donates 50% of the profits from these limited edition pieces to the Dressember Foundation.  I wore it as a blouse in a super cute outfit to dinner.

img_6908For dinner we went to Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket! It was really good, and the ambiance was very vintage. I think that’s so cool, that such a long standing restaurant is still so popular on the historic Route 66. Definitely check it out when you come around Chicago!

This place has been around since 1946 and is still one of the hot spots for a good homecooked meal. We shared their Lemon Garlic Char-broiled Wings (AMAZING), I had the Montery Ranch Chicken sandwich, and Brett had the Chef Pat’s Favorite sandwich. I added the All You Can Eat Salad/Soup bar to my meal for $5.99, and Brett had one of their many craft beers. We definitely want to go back to try their Black Angus Chili and their lunch buffet (only Monday-Fridays).

p13937884_p_v8_abAfter dinner, we wanted to watch A Star Is Born. We got to AMC and bought our tickets. The tickets were printed, and the guy noticed he had accidentally printed us tickets for A Simple Favor. Instead of redoing the transaction, he just marked the tickets with the correct theater number (#16) and let the ticket lady know we were actually going to #16. We sit down, and all the previews are playing one by one (I love watching previews.) The movie is about to start, and we see “MARVEL” light up the screen. Brett turns to me and goes, “Marvel?… 😱 WE’RE WATCHING VENOM We started laughing hysterically. We already wanted to watch Venom this weekend, so we decided to stay. WE REALLY LIKED IT! I thought it was very entertaining, funny, and an overall fun movie. How we came to watch it was just a very convoluted and hysterical story, but now we will have to see A Star is Born another day.

Sunday

img_6949The last and final day of our weekend, and we went out with our tummies full! After letting Honey & Maeko out at 6:30am, I went back to bed until about noon (Yes…..) and then we went to Chiba Japanese Restaurant for lunch. I got the Unagi Plate (Broiled Eel over sushi rice) and Brett got the 12 piece sushi platter. It was just enough food to not be overly full, and it was all so fresh and delicious.

After lunch, Brett took a nap and then took Honey for a walk. I hung out with Maeko while she happily munched on a rawhide. When they got back, I played in the backyard with Honey & Maeko for a while before we went out to dinner. It was really good to see Maeko running, jumping, and playing since she’s getting older. I worry about her sometimes..

img_6932Dinner was the perfect close to the day. We went to Labriola Bakery & Cafe. We love getting the Sunday Gravy (if you’ve never had that dish, it’s a delicious traditional Italian dish and very hearty!) Their filet slider are well seasoned and the perfect bite sizes. We got their Grilled Bread Labriola Salad, the Waldorf Astoria Salad, Margherita Pizza, Filet Sliders, Sunday Gravy, and I had a side of tomato soup (Did I mention that tomato soup is my ultimate comfort food? Yes. Yes it is.). Even though it was pretty busy for Sunday night, we were able to find a booth and didn’t have to wait too long for our food. Great food. Great service. Go eat there sometime!

We finished the night watching more Bleach episodes. I’m really getting into this show!

That was a recap of the weekend!

I think we’re going to watch A Star is Born during Tuesday $5 Movie night. This week is my last full-time week in my current position. I start transitioning into my new role next week, so it will be a busy couple weeks of back and forth between departments. Also, a couple weeks until our Scottsdale vacation! Woohoo!

Alright then, thanks for reading! Stay tuned for the Friday Favorites this week!
