Weekend Recap: Clean & Fashionable with Happy Tummies

Weekends are never long enough, right?

I’m pretty much already in vacation mode, since in two days, we will be off to Scottsdale, AZ! But FIRST, what fun happened over this past weekend? Let me tell you about it….

Friday

Okay, so I’m the WORST when it comes to cleaning my home. Last time, it damn near took me six hours to vacuum the second floor and stairs (dog fur, my hair, dirt.. just ALLLLLL embedded into the carpet) and that’s because I don’t do it regularly, as I should. I am also way overdue for my air filter replacement. Oven hasn’t been cleaned in about a year (To be honest, I don’t really use it much) and the garage floor also needs to be cleaned. SO, naturally, following that laundry list, I decided to start cleaning our humidifiers on Friday (and that’s how nothing bigger gets cleaned…. I need to prioritize!)

img_7549My warm mist humidifier was absolutely disgusting, so I had to soak it in vinegar Friday-Sunday before we could use it. The mineral deposits hardened so much over the last two year, I couldn’t even remove that middle cylinder (yeah, that was supposed to come out, but it was stuck.) I now know how to clean it, and will maintain it weekly (hopefully…)

Otherwise, didn’t really do much else except watch more Bleach episodes. Since Netflix only had Seasons 1-3, we are now watching it on Hulu, because they have all the seasons!

Saturday

We did the usual lunch specials at Chiba for sushi and hibachi. My friend came along with us, which was super nice to see her. The craziest thing that happened was the WEATHER! ca2ac03b-db07-4e59-a663-694c0c0871f5-8792-000005f7cc5dd6fc.pngI’m sure many of you are familiar with the internet meme of how the Midwest weather is commonly all seasons within the same day. Well, that was Saturday. It started out partly cloudy in the low 50’s, then it rained, and then thunder-snowed, then it was 39 degrees and very windy, and then it was sunny. All within 4 hours. We ran though the thunder-snow to Nothing Bundt Cake after lunch, which was insane. I was not prepared for that (Siri/Weather Channel/Weather app did NOT mention the drastic changes!)

img_7602Oh, the most exciting part of the day was actually the delivery of my highly anticipated Reversible Blazer from Sseko! I was so excited to wear it, those I took photos with it over my pajamas. It was on backorder, then stuck in customs, but it finally made it to me!! IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! It’s so beautiful, durable, luxurious, trendy, versatile, and handmade by the talented women in Uganda (Mine was made by Ada! The women sign their names on all the pieces they make, which makes it even more special to have!) I have literally worn this every day since then (yes, also yesterday, today, and probably tomorrow, too.)

For dinner, we went to dinner at a new place for us, Zazzo’s Pizza: Restaurant & Bar.  It was delicious! There were large portions, which we did not anticipate, so we over ordered (but leftovers means less cooking!) We got the boneless chicken wings (they were huge!), tomato basil cream gnocchi (um, delicious!), their Meat Lovers pizza, side of tomato basil soup, and I also got a BBQ chicken salad. We were almost full after just the wings, haha. The ambiance is cool, perfect for a casual outing, and they have multiple flat screen T.V.’s to watch multiple sports games or shows at once. We will go back again for sure!

Sunday

The perfect way to end the weekend. I totally slept in after feeding H&M (Honey and Maeko. I’ll often refer to them as H&M!) and then we watched the Bears game for a little bit on T.V., then decided to watch more Bleach episodes. I’m totally getting into the show, and have emotionally invested in characters. I’m in for the long run!! All 26 seasons, here I come!

My humidifier was finally de-crusted of all the hard mineral deposits that built a city throughout the unit. It was getting so dry in the house that I would wake up with a dry throat and or nasal passages. A humidifier is a must during the cooler temps!

img_7620For dinner, we went to La Barra and had a deliciously hearty meal. We ordered their brussel sprouts, braciole, Sunday Gravy, and Nduja pizza (I don’t know where that photo went….) to share. I ordered a steak. It was the first meal I had that day, and I made it count! It was perfectly cooked medium rare, and you can’t go wrong with a side of Parmesan fries. For dessert, we had their fried cannoli pie with a side of vanilla gelato. We’ve never had cannoli prepared like that, and it was SO GOOD! Light, savory, sweet, doughy, and the perfect end to the meal.

That’s all for the weekend!

We still haven’t seen the movies. Looks like we’re going to watch them in Scottsdale! I have to start figuring out what I want to pack for the trip! I’m a planner for packing, where I have a list and actually go checking things off as I put them in my suitcase. I need like at least a full day to pack, where Brett takes like half an hour, maybe an hour, max.

I always try to follow the rule:

“Pack half of what you THINK you’ll need, and TWICE as much money.”

…. I think I end up doing BOTH! Haha, well, we’ll see.

I will be doing a vacation post instead of the Friday Favorites!

Thanks for reading! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and have a wonderful week ahead of you!
